Daiikon is a production and DJ cooperative hailing from the picturesque Swiss mountains. Just like their homegrown daiikons, they craft their own unique blend of melodies and grooves, cultivating a distinctive musical identity. With their roots firmly grounded in the underground house music scene, Daiikon (meaning « big root » in Japanese) is known for their raw and uncalibrated sound.
The origins of Daiikon can be traced back to Geneva, Switzerland, a city renowned for its electro music scene. It was here that the cooperative took shape, finding inspiration from their first love, 80’s New Beat and Acid House. Located in the old town of Carouge, their base station studio became a creative hub that attracted visits from the likes of Sonja Moonear, Luciano, Felix the House Cat, Dave The Hustler and other influential artists.
In addition to their music endeavors, Daiikon made their mark on the technological front as well. They were involved in the first European internet radio, the now defunct
basic.ch radio, making significant contributions to the electronic music community as early as 1998. This early adoption of internet broadcasting showcased their forward-thinking mindset and willingness to explore new avenues for sharing their music.
While their beginnings may have been in Switzerland, Daiikon's talent has taken them far and wide. From New York - they are Sheik’N’Beik residents since 2009 - to Paris, Barcelona to Berlin, and even Bogota, Daiikon has shared their infectious groove, always eschewing the clichéd hands-in-the-air moments for a more authentic musical experience.
Daiikon's sets resonate with energy, captivating crowds with their carefully curated selections and expertly crafted transitions. They have become known for their ability to seamlessly blend genres, creating a unique sonic experience that defies convention. Hands in fields to beats: furrowing grooves!
As a production cooperative, Daiikon's creativity extends beyond their performances. They constantly push boundaries, experimenting with innovative production techniques and exploring uncharted musical territories. Releases on Sheik N’Beik and on Ruta 5 (Dandy Jack’s label) coming soon.
